The annual conference, which took place in London yesterday, explores the role of boards and governance.
As part of the event, NHS Trusts are given the opportunity to submit case studies of best practice and share this as part of the Governance Showcase exhibition.
Our Trust was announced as one of the winners for our new integrated performance approach to quality and performance assurance and improvement.
Members of our performance team were invited to host their own exhibition stand at the conference to showcase our integrated performance approach and integrated performance report (IPR).
Associate Director of Performance, Sarah Theobald, worked with members of the board and other stakeholders to develop an approach that would give oversight and report key measures that demonstrate the quality of services. This would in turn provide assurance to the board through the board subcommittee structure.
This approach led to an Integrated Performance Report (IPR), which includes an integrated board dashboard showing our progress against the NHS long-term plan and system oversight framework, and is supported by reports from each individual board subcommittee.
The dashboard is underpinned by statistical process control charts, which has been a positive move away from traditional RAG ratings and has transformed our conversations at board and within care groups.
We also have a performance and controls assurance framework which gives a clear visual representation of where we need to focus our efforts to improve service delivery.
Sarah Theobald, said: “To be announced as winners in the Governance Showcase is an amazing achievement and demonstrates how we are continuing to improve our performance management framework in the Trust.
“Our performance team worked with colleagues across the Trust to implement the IPR and we are grateful for all the support – it was a big team effort.
“We regularly share our IPRs with our commissioners and integrated care board (ICB) colleagues as a form of assurance, which means we don’t need to provide separate reporting, which is a huge step forward.
“Positive feedback from our colleagues, board, ICB colleagues and other mental health trusts on our approach has been overwhelming.”
Congratulations to the team!
