Bella first started visiting over a year ago, dressing up in outfits to mark the holidays including Valentine’s Day, Christmas and Easter.
Mainly visiting West Park Hospital in Darlington, Bella has extended her travels to other sites across the Trust, including Lanchester Road Hospital and Roseberry Park Hospital, to spread more Christmas spirit.
Her festive wardrobe this year has included costumes such as a snowman, a reindeer, Santa, a Christmas pudding, a penguin, and even her very own Christmas jumper.
Laura, Bella’s owner and a volunteer for our Trust, said: “Everyone knows Bella for all of her outfits on every occasion and they are always wondering what she is going to be wearing next.
“The patients and staff especially loved when she went round on Valentine’s Day in her homemade t-shirt carrying a basket with crocheted hearts in it that my friend kindly made for us.
“She loves volunteering with me and getting loads of attention!”
Inspired by the memory of her two friends and her own struggles with mental health, Laura wanted to share just how much Bella has helped in creating peace and joy not only for herself but others as well.
Laura added: “The purpose of our visits is about spreading some happiness to those who are going through a really difficult time whilst in hospital.
“They also help to bring smiles and happiness to the staff because I know their jobs aren’t the easiest sometimes, so it’s lovely to see how happy they are when they get to see Bella.
“We would love to be able to visit more places as it’s great to be able to share Bella’s lovingness with others.”
As a favourite visitor to our Trust, Bella will surely make her return in the New Year and we cannot wait to see what outfits she has in store for us!
