It was a night of celebration and achievement for two of our staff at the Hull York Medical School’s annual Teaching Excellence Awards.
Over 150 guests celebrated the exceptional medical education and support provided to Hull York Medical School’s medicine and physician associate students.
The glittering event recognises the outstanding contribution of colleagues across the region who support students. Prizes are awarded in seven categories and the nominees and winners were all submitted and chosen by students, acknowledging those who had inspired, supported, and had a positive impact on their lives and education.
There were two wins on the night for our colleagues:
Dora Katalenac Zovko, a speciality doctor at Foss Park in York scooped the Medicine Phase II and III Tutor of Excellence Award that recognises clinical placement and skills tutors, including those who provide scholarship and special interest programme support across phase II or III of the medicine programme.
The organisation said that Dora:
“Continually went above and beyond during our placement.”
“Provided a safe space to practise our consultation skills.”
“Provided exceptional pastoral support, maintaining great relationships with students.”
Polly Snelling, a physician associate also at Foss Park in York won the Physician Associate Tutor of Excellence Award. The award recognises problem-based learning, clinical placement tutors and clinical skills tutors who deliver teaching on the MSc in physician associate studies programme.
Members stated that Polly:
“Challenges our thinking in a positive way.”
“A provider of truly excellent teaching and support.”
“Great at providing constructive feedback.”
Tracy Legg, nurse lead in medical education, said: “The evening was lovely with everyone showing enthusiasm and support for all the winners and nominees. It was lovely to hear some of the things that students fed back about the educators and mentors.
“I am delighted that both Dora and Polly have been recognised, as they often go above and beyond in their role as educators. They provide excellent pastoral and professional support and consistently demonstrate and live our Trust values.
“They are both excellent ambassadors for our organisation.”
Congratulations Dora and Polly.
