Staff at Elm ward in West Park hospital are calling out for crisp packets to help the homeless this winter.
The crisp packet project creates survival blankets out of crisp packets to give to the homeless to keep them warm throughout the colder months.
The survival blankets are waterproof and have great insulation in cold, wet weather.
To be able to make one blanket, approximately 75 to 125 crisp packets are needed.
Hayley Briddick, an activity coordinator hopes that this can be something that everyone can get involved with. She said: “I already have staff and patients collecting the crisp packets. I just want the word out there to let everyone know what we are doing and welcome anyone else who wants to get involved.
“I have received hundreds and hundreds of bags from far and wide within the trust and this is amazing. I have got staff and patients helping to prepare the bags, as this is the time-consuming part – splitting the bags open carefully without ripping them and then washing and drying the bags.
“This project has helped so many people in so many ways. Its just one big ball of magic and its as simple as crisp packets and iron.
“I am happy for anyone else to get involved, and there are plenty of tutorial videos on YouTube.”
