A trail-blazing way of broadcasting the benefits of co-creation – working in partnership with patients and carers towards shared goals – has just been launched.
Head of co-creation Liam Corbally has teamed up with lived experience director Chris Morton to develop a unique podcast called Co-Create Now.
The first episode focusses on our Trust’s new co-creation framework, while later ones will explore co-creation in greater depth – and feature hints and tips for projects too.
“Our podcast was born from a deep passion for co-creation. We look at what it truly means to create change alongside people, not just for or to them,” said Chris.
“It’s been an incredible journey – raw, reflective, and sometimes challenging – as we’ve explored the stories, insights, and complexities that often go unheard.”
Making voices matter
Co-creation is our Trust’s word for working in partnership with patients, carers, staff and partner organisations towards shared goals.
Our aim is for the voices of patients and carers to be sought out, listened to and acted upon at every level across the Trust – to support people to live their best lives.
A wide range of co-created projects are already underway across TEWV — with patients and carers at the centre of policy changes, decisions and developments.
Key co-created projects include:
- The publication of Ridgeway’s Writings – a collection of poetry, stories and artwork by patients, staff and carers at our Middlesbrough secure inpatient service.
- A study by involvement members into barriers to care. This has resulted in the launch of a Trust-wide staff challenge to tackle health inequalities.
- The creation of a 3D virtual tour of Roseberry Park Hospital to help ease the anxieties of patients attending appointments.
“At the heart of co-creation is developing relationships with people. It helps empower patients, increase the quality of services and improve clinical outcomes,” said Liam.
“We launched this podcast to help people explore, reflect and think about their own co-creation journey, as well as to offer practical ways of making co-creation a reality.
“For me, listening to podcasts is like those old fireside chats or conversations around the table that so many of us crave. We want to open a new window on co-creation.”
Working in partnership
The first episode of the Co-Create Now series takes an in-depth look at the Trust’s new Co-creation Framework – a foundational document which was launched last month.
The framework is thought to be one of the most co-created documents ever produced by TEWV and defines our approach to co-creation – both now and in the future.
The development of the framework has been three years in the making – with dozens of staff, patients, carers and partner organisations involved in the project.
“Putting co-creation into practice often puts my head in a bit of a spin about how to do this practically,” said Liam.
“Chris and I explore in these podcasts what putting our co-creation framework into practice really looks like and means for us. If you get the chance to listen, please do.
“We are forever learning too, so if you have some practical ways of putting this into practice that you think we haven’t covered, it would be great to hear your ideas.
“Co-create now, you will never stop learning.”
