Joining us and receiving care at The Orchards
Referrals are made to The Orchards from secondary services, Community Mental Health Teams and Inpatient Wards.
As soon as we have a better understanding of the care you need to help you manage and cope with your experience, we’ll decide which facility best meets your needs. This is usually discussed at a conference call and is followed up with a face-to-face assessment.
You may also be offered an opportunity to visit The Orchards prior to a transfer or admission.
Therapy based activities
Our team providing your care will meet with you to discuss which activities will benefit you the most. These may be individual or group-based therapies, inside or outside of the unit.
We have close links with social organisations in the community and with an employment officer. Support with vocational skills and volunteering opportunities is also provided.
There’s a wide range of shops nearby and the town centre is within walking distance or there’s also the option of regular public transport.
Support with vocational skills and volunteering opportunities is provided.
Living here with us at The Orchards
We will support you with shopping, cooking, keeping your room tidy, and looking after you when the time is right for you to prepare to move on from the ward.
Visiting
We welcome open visiting for family and friends during reasonable hours. All visits are at the discretion of the nurse in charge.
Please be aware that we operate a child visiting policy, this applies to children up to the age of 18 years. All visits by children must be pre-arranged with our team here, and a responsible adult should accompany children who are visiting.
Smoke free policy
We are a smoke free Trust. This means smoking will not be permitted anywhere on Trust premises, including the grounds. For more information, please ask a member of our team.
Help is available for patients who want to give up smoking whilst at The Orchards. Please speak to your named nurse for advice.
Leaving us to move on
To make your transition into the community as smooth as possible, our team will work closely with you, your carers and community agencies. This can include accommodation officers, community mental health teams and advocacy services.
